Why FLINMI?
In a rapidly changing world, it is essential to remember and honor our past, even when it contains painful chapters. The FLINMI project aims to promote understanding, reconciliation, and unity by focusing on a culture of remembrance connected to the periods of colonialism and National Socialism.
Funded by the « Remembrance, Responsibility, and Future » (EVZ) Foundation, the project creates a platform for constructive dialogue and preserves pivotal moments in the history of Black people, Romani, and Sinti communities. Together, we seek to engage with the past in a responsible and empathetic manner, fostering tolerance, inclusion, and solidarity among peoples, particularly the descendants of the affected groups.
On this platform, you will find the results of workshops, educational quizzes, interviews, and much more. Join us in our mission to make the culture of remembrance sustainable and inclusive.
Our Approach
The project was developed by the Black Academy. As a Black community within the field of political education, our concept is rooted in the visibility of the perspectives and knowledge of Black people. We place Black individuals as experts at the center of our work.
We view ourselves as a group critically addressing racism and engaging in decolonial practices. We recognize the importance of using these experiences as a framework to reflect on other forms of oppression and to establish connections with other communities. We believe it is crucial to learn from and support other communities, empowering one another. With this in mind, we launched the FLINMI project with the support of the EVZ, to learn from the history of the Roma and Sinti while sharing our own lived experiences of oppression and resistance.
